General Rules
Below are the general rules of the Jugiong Carpathon fishing competition:
- The Carpathon is a Carp fishing competition hosted by the Jugiong Fishing Club Incorporated.
- European Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is the only fish to be measured in the Carpathon, other fish species will not be accepted.
- Participants must register to enter the competition and to be eligible for prizes, including the lucky door prize. There are 3 levels of registration: Junior (1 to 11 years), Intermediate (12 to 17 years) and Adult (18 years and older).
- Registrations are NOT refundable.
- Online registrations open approximately 2 weeks prior to the event and close 4pm, Saturday 7 March 2026. Registration link will be posted here when open.
- In-person registrations at the Jugiong Hall (Riverside Dr, Jugiong NSW 2726) on Friday 6 March 2026, 3-6pm and Saturday 7 March 2026, 8am-12pm.
- Participants aged 18 years and over must hold a recreational fishing licence (fishing licences can be purchased here: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-for-a-recreational-fishing-licence-1-year-or-3-year).
- There is no set location for fishing, you’re welcome to fish anywhere you like (please note permission must be granted to access private property).
- As Carp are an invasive species, all Carp caught must NOT be released back into the waterway but instead dispatched humanely (i.e. by a sharp blow to the head).
- To be eligible for prizes, Carp must be measured by our team at the Jugiong Hall on Saturday 7 March 2026, between 4-6pm and/or Sunday 8 March 2026 between 11am-1pm. Our team’s measurement is final, and we reserve the right to refuse entry of any fish for reasons we believe are valid. There is no limit to the number of Carp to be measured per participant.
- The Jugiong Fishing Club will be holding a BBQ at the Jugiong Hall with sausages and drinks available for purchase on Sunday 8 March 2026, from 11am before the Presentation.
- Prize winners are announced at the Presentation, Sunday 8 March 2026, 1.30pm at the Jugiong Hall.
- The lucky door prizes are randomly drawn from all registrations received regardless if the participant measures a fish or not. To win the lucky door prize, participants must be present at the Presentation at the time of drawing, if participant is not present, another participant will be drawn until won.
- The prize categories are:
- Junior / infant male longest carp (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
- Junior / infant mystery length
- Intermediate male longest carp (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
- Intermediate female longest carp (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
- Intermediate mystery length
- Adult male longest carp (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
- Adult female longest carp (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
- Adult mystery length
- Junior & intermediate combined lucky door prize – $300 cash prize
- Adult lucky door prize – $700 cash prize
Risk Warning and Waiver of Contractual Duty of Care Civil Liability Act 2002
Contract for supply of Jugiong Fishing Club Incorporated as organiser of the Jugiong Carpathon to be held on the 6th, 7th & 8th of March 2026.
By participating in the Jugiong Carpathon 2026 you agree to the following statement:
I agree to participate in the Jugiong Carpathon at my own risk. I know that my agreement operates to exclude any liability in negligence for harm that I may suffer. I am aware that this recreational activity may cause physical harm to me or to someone under my control or accompanying me, and I confirm that I have no condition, medical or physical, that could prevent me from, or be aggravated by, participating in this activity.
Examples of the risks include but are not limited to:
- Tripping, slipping and falling;
- Collision with someone or something;
- Something giving way unexpectedly;
- Back injury;
- Strains;
- Spillage and burns;
- Trip hazards;
- Car accident;
- Bites and stings;
- Sharp tools and equipment;
- Sun and heat stress;
- Poisoned by chemicals;
- Injury from falling branches; and
- Strained back
